Before we began our water saving project

Previous water bills show the average daily water consumption at the school varied from 7 kilolitres to 30 kilolitres with the average around 15 kLitres. An audit by the school environment water committee found that approximately half the school water consumption (on a school day) occurs out of school hours. This suggests that, like most schools, leaks account for over half of the water consumption. The reasons for the leakage were easily found

With funding from a Public Facilities Grant from the NSW Department of Energy Climate Change and Water, we got the following works completed:-

Water Efficiency Measures

Rainwater Harvesting System Installed

Water Leak Detection System

This system will enable the water use from each rainwater tank, and from the mains supply to be separately monitored. The monitoring data will be available on the school website, enabling students and staff to access the data. This will enable leaks to be identified, but it will also enable the school’s water usage to be studied as part of maths, science and geography.
