Applicants will be considered for a dance placement at Newtown High School of the Performing Arts on the basis of an audition.


  • Will be conducted by a panel chaired by the Head Teacher Dance and members of the Dance Faculty
  • Will consist of other applicants participating in a Modern Contemporary Dance and Classical Ballet audition (approximately 2.5 - 3 hours) which will include floor and centre work, progressions and learning as well as performing a short dance sequence.

Students will be assessed on:-

  • Demonstrated dance skills
  • Physical and cognitive potential in dance
  • Genuine interest, self-discipline and commitment
  • Ability to work independently and co-operatively

A prepared dance is NOT required and will not be included as part of the audition process.


Applicants should wear plain, form fitting dance wear and be prepared to work in bare feet.  Hair should be tied back if necessary.


  • Eight (8) passport size photographs will be required on the day of the audition to assist the audition panel identify the applicant in the audition.  Failure to supply photographs can seriously disadvantage the applicant in the audition.
  • Each photo should have the applicant’s name and date of birth clearly printed on the back.
